Weasis Team

Weasis Team is an open-source medical imaging collective whose single, tightly focused flagship, Weasis, delivers enterprise-grade DICOM visualization for radiologists, clinicians, technicians, and researchers. Built on a modular Java and OSGi architecture, the software reads every common medical image format—from CT, MR, and PET to mammography, tomography, and multi-frame ultrasound—while handling complex presentation states, key-object selections, and structured reports without vendor lock-in. Radiologists use its hanging-protocol engine to stack, sync, and annotate series across multi-monitor workstations; surgeons review 3-D MPR, curved reformations, and volume renderings pre-operatively; cardiologists measure ejection fractions in cine loops; and students access the same zero-cost tool through university PACS servers. A lightweight Web viewer, embeddable in any HTML5 portal, extends access to referring physicians and patients on tablets or phones, yet keeps the full desktop feature set when launched via Java Web Start. Extensive plug-in APIs allow departments to add AI findings, dose tracking, or audit trails, while built-in DICOM networking retrieves, stores, and prints through secure C-STORE, C-FIND, and WADO services.
